To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking sci-fi horror film ALIEN (1979), six filmmakers were selected to bring their Alien-inspired stories to life. Vancouver based directors Kailey and Sam Spear were chosen as one of the 6, and I was invited by them to work on the film's motion graphics and to create the movie poster.
Watch FilmWe sent 20th Century Fox 2 concepts from a total of 6, one being more abstract and the other requiring some original shots. The abstract version above uses the green lighting from the original ALIEN poster. The photo below is a behind the scenes shot from the poster shoot. The film premiered at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver with the cast and crew.
Spirit Glitch is an experimental short film written and directed by Mary Galloway and starring Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash). The story follows a young queer woman of colour as she battles painful memories, emotional abuse, and societal pressures, fighting to reclaim her voice.
For the film’s poster, my goal was to translate these themes into a visual language. The design reflects the character’s shifting emotional states and the fragmented, ethereal nature of memory. By layering textures, abstract forms, and subtle distortions, the poster captures the sense of inner conflict and the haunting beauty of resilience.
Directed by Edward Mines, Opia is a film about a young boy experiencing strange periods of amnesia after being exposed to a dangerous memory drug.
